I am researching the Skelton family up to 1900. William Skelton b 1812 was my gt gt gt grandfather. He came from the Durham area and married Elizabeth Tweedale in Rotherham in 1833. He founded the Skelton spade and shovel manufacturing business and was the father of a former mayor of Sheffield, Sir Charles Thomas Skelton.

I would love to have information about the family, business and anything in relation to service to Sheffield. I believe the family was Methodist and I would like to know where William and Elizabeth are buried. They died in 1880 and 1888 respectively in Sheaf Bank. I know CT Skelton lived in Meadowbank Road at one time.

Their daughter Elizabeth b 1840 married George Heselwood when she was 18. He was a railway spring maker and they lived in Attercliffe. Several of their children emigrated to Rhode Island in the late 1880s.

Any knowledge or ideas most welcome.

Thanks very much for the link. Maybe the parents are buried there too? I'll try and visit one day.
